Getting your entire family outfits for a photo session may sound daunting but don’t worry! I’m here to give you some tips on what to wear to your fall family session. Trust me, I know what it’s like trying to get an entire family out the door on time, and on top of that, they all have to be well-dressed with shoes on and their hair done!! It sounds impossible! Now I can’t be there to help your family get ready but I am here to help point you in the right direction when it comes to picking out outfits. Keep on reading to learn about my favorite tips on what to wear to your fall family session!

Avoid Matching Outfits
The thought of your whole family matching may sound cute but in reality, it’s not going to look nice in professional photos. Instead of matching, try to coordinate the outfits. Keep them similar but not the same exact thing. I think the easiest way to go about this is by choosing a color scheme and going off of it. Neutrals work well in every single setting and look really nice against the changing colors of fall. Earth tones also work really well in the fall season too. You can also try playing around with different fabrics and textures to add contrast to your photos. Whatever you decide just remember, don’t match, coordinate!
Stay Away From Logos and Graphics
Logos are distracting and are more than likely the first place your eyes are drawn to. Instead of seeing how adorable your baby is people see a giant Nike logo smack dab in the middle of a t-shirt. It’s best to stay away from logos on clothing to try and avoid this situation. It’s the same way for graphics as they can be very distracting. Stick to small patterns or plain-colored clothing for the best results.
Try Your Clothes on in Advance
This may seem like a no-brainer but I know parents are extremely busy and have a lot on their minds, so having their children try on their outfits beforehand might slip their minds! This happens way more than you think. You buy a cute dress for your daughter, you set it out on the bed to make sure it goes together with everyone else’s outfits, then it comes to the day of the photoshoot and you’re getting everyone ready and… uh oh! The dress doesn’t fit! Now you’re scrambling to find an outfit that works or you’re stopping at a store on the way. I don’t want you to have to go through this situation so make sure you have everyone try on their clothes in advance!

Dress for the Weather
It’s fall! So depending on where you live it may mean dressing a little warmer. Go with boots instead of sandals and throw on a nice jacket! Now, I’m based in Florida so fall around here just means there’s a little bit more of a breeze but if you want to go for fall vibes try making your outfit fit the fall aesthetic. In some states, fall can be really cold or it may even start to snow, so make sure you check the weather ahead of time and be prepared!
Go for a Fall Color Palette
There’s nothing better than well-coordinated outfits in family photos. If you’re not sure where to start go with a fall color palette. Earthy tones always work well, you can stick to browns, black , maroons, and dark greens. These colors scream fall and work really well together! They are also perfect if your photos are outdoors cause they match the background amazingly.
